The Greatest Sources Of Inspiration Of Three Wheeled Buggies

Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're looking for a buggy to run with or just a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies provide great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. They are, however, susceptible, to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies, that emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers which can handle a wider range of terrain, while also looking stylish and easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are, the better your buggy will cope with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear allow you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found that it coped well with grass, cobbles, rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. Kath said that "it feels sturdy to push and extremely solid when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) offer built-in suspension which was extremely comfortable for my children.

The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to think about. It should be large enough for your child's comfort and you will also require it to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer the option of lying flat, which lets your child face you, whereas others only allow a parent-facing one.

A great option for those who want to tackle off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. The buggy can be used as a single unit from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age four and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, a better 5-point harness and a spacious cushioned seat unit. Storage options are also good with a large storage basket, zip pockets on the hood and a handy pouch at the rear of seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving over rough terrain. This is especially beneficial for buggies designed for off-road use. They also make it easier to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Certain three-wheeled buggies have rotating wheels on the front, which help you navigate tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for greater speed and stability. This is also helpful if you bump into the roots of a tree or stray kerb as the front wheel can be lifted up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheeled pushchairs come with air-filled tyres, which allows them to tackle a broad range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They also tend to be lighter. They are more prone to punctures, so you'll need to have repair kits and an spare inner tubes on hand.

Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and can easily climb and descend kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This could be a problem if you are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow while out and about. Fortunately, many models come with compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to maneuver

A three-wheeled buggy is more maneuverable for children. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are really maneuverable, making them ideal for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles or bumpy pavements, as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried an all-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver in rough terrain. The swivel wheel front was particularly useful." I was also impressed with how well it coped with bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely stable when driving downhill or over uneven terrain."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of a  3 wheel buggy  might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you should be aware of when you live in one of the cities. If this is an issue then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.

This puts the center of gravity for your baby at the perfect height and also provides great weight distribution, making it easier to pop over curbs (it is much easier to push a stroller up and down than you may think).
